NON- HUMAN ELEMENTS IN MALAYALAM FILMS THAT BECAME AS FAMOUS AS THE MOVIE AND THE CHARACTERS
Malayalees have witnessed a lot of films where the story revolves around a particular object or some place. In addition to that, some elements in a film start getting noticed few years after the release. The makers may have never intended so. It simply happens so. Let’s take a look into few such elements.
10. Abibas- Minnal
Murali (2021)
Recently we have seen Minnal Murali breaking many charts and
records. Abibas became as famous as Minnal Murali. No one could forget Jaison
saying
“Ippo itinte duplicate irangiyitund atre ADIDAS”
9. The Secret Place- Note Book (2006)
Now, this is kind of nostalgia to 2000s school kids. The
movie was a sensation among teenagers. The trio of Sarah (Roma Asrani),
Sreedevi (Maria Roy) and Pooja (Parvathy Thiruvoth) and their little mischiefs
thoroughly entertained the then teenagers. So were their little secret place
and their plant friend Venus.
8. The Black Shirt-
Premam (2015)
When Premam released, the style of George (Nivin Pauly)
especially the iconic black shirt was trending all over Kerala. The
celebrations and functions in colleges witnessed youth coming in black dress in
mass number.
Along with “Java
simple aanu, BUT powerful”, black became a star among the youth.
7. The Radio-
Loudspeaker (2009)
Nobody could forget Philippose (Mammotty) and his loud
talking style in the movie Loudspeaker. An old radio is the only companion in
his life. He takes that to every place that he goes to. Eventhough it is
annoying to almost all the people that he meets in the way, the radio is kind
of an emotional support to him. He is unable to abandon that.
Every people need one or another “radio” in their life. Radio
can even be a person as in some of our cases. However, at times listening may
not be as easy as talking.
6. Thattil Kutti Dosa-
Salt N Pepper (2011)
Water oozes out of our mouth as hear of naadan Dosa and
chammanthi. Oru Dosa undakkiya kadha (A story made by Dosa), literally was a
treat to watch. A story which actually told that food is an emotion.
After the film released, Thattil Kutti Dosa became star
attraction even in many big restaurants and food festivals.

Together with the inter-generational perspectives about romance, Sulaimani went
on becoming a classic romantic element in Malayalam cinema. Look at how
emotions are conveyed through small things in life.
4. Ilama pazham- Guru
(1997)
No one will forget Raghu Raman (Mohanlal) and the Ilama
pazham if they had seen the film. The
whole film travels through Raghu Raman’s dream. Our life path is dependent on
whether we accept or reject the “Ilama pazhams” in our life.
3. Kittunnis lottery-
Kilukkam (1991)
Nandini: Kittuniyetta, itu vare sheriyano?
Kittunni: Itu vare valare valare sheriyaanu…
How could we forget this iconic dialogue exchange between
Kittunni (Innocent) and Nandini (Revathy) from the film? It went on becoming a
running joke among Malayalees. The film also had several other famous dialogues
like “Poricha koyiinte manam” (The smell of fried chicken) and “Welcome to
Ooty, Nice to meet you”.
2. The Cat- Summer in
Bethlehem (1998)
Till date we don’t know that which cousin girl sent the cat
to Ravi Shankar (Jayaram)? That remains the greatest mystery in Mollywood.
Anyway we never fail to notice the adorable cat, which is the soul of the
movie.
1 The Necklace- Vettam
(2004)
The whole movie is a fun packed ride. Almost the whole story
revolves around this stolen piece of jewellery and the thief Gopikrishnan
