WHY DOES THE CLICHÉS IN “HRIDAYAM” DON’T BOTHER THE MAJORITY AUDIENCE?

The 2022 movie Hridayam is full of clichés. The campus love, breakup, love triangle, trains, beaches, food, photography, the list goes on. Actually what is new in Hridayam?

Despite all of these, what makes the movie so appealing to common audience?

The one factor that made Hridayam unique is pure director’s impact. Definitely, there is a freshness factor amidst all the clichés in the movie. Vineeth Sreenivasan effect hugely lifts the mood of the plot. It is impossible to not mention that, this movie literally has no similarity with his previous directories. It is a totally different journey. It’s like his way of presentation keeps on changing.

The fresh faces too had a major share in the success of the movie. By fresh faces, it is meant that these faces are fresh in a Vineeth Sreenivasan frame. Pranav Mohanlal, Darshana Rajendran and Kalyani Priyadarshan have done a wonderful job. Supporting cast also had done a nice job.

The music is also extremely fresh, like it is tailor made for this film. In this particular film, music has more than just a supporting role. At times, story is told through music. Not a song feels like it doesn’t belong to the scene. It is close to a musical, considering the total number of songs and the feel that it provides. It wouldn’t be wrong to call it a “Mollywood musical”. The music director, Hesham Abdul Wahab deserves a special applause. The role of music in covering up the clichés is not small.

Interestingly, all the main leads have flaws and a good side. It is not the usual stuff like, one person is wrong and the other is right. Most characters have a reasonable depth with a mostly greyish tone. Definitely, this is one particular non- cliché element in the film.

The director impact cannot go unnoticed in this film. To present a cliché story in a fresh way is an extremely tedious task. Again, Vineeth Sreenivasan never fail to prove that, how way of presentation is the heart and soul of a film.

Hridayam is undoubtedly a director’s film.

Overall, it is a nice feel good movie with all the elements; be it the comedy or action or romance or drama blended in a nearly perfect ratio.
